Just in 2 years, this organization has earned the reputation and esteem of being most committed instrument in Bangladesh to combat terrorism and Islamist militancy. Bangladesh\'s Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia entrusted State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar to form a very effective organization in Bangladesh with the theme of Federal Bureau of Investigation, so that this organization can successfully eliminate terrorism and rise of Islamist radicals in the country. Babar, being the most successful ministers, who never hesitates to work tirelessly in delivering maximum output of his responsibility, formed Rapid Action Battalion with selected members of Bangladesh Police and Armed Forces. Bangladesh is one of the developing countries of the world. One of the impediments to its development is unstable law and order situation. At the back drop of this situation Government of Bangladesh felt the necessity to organize a permanent special force under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Home Affairs in order to make the society crime free . Finally with the blessing of Honorable Prime minister and under the close supervision of the Honorable State Minister for Ministry of Home Affairs a special Force named RAPID ACTION BATTALION FORCES was formally emerged on 26 March 2004. This force started its operational journey at a limited scale from 14 April 2004. Motto of Rapid Action Battalion Forces is "Bangladesh is My Pride", while their prime responsibility is to prevent crime and apprehend criminals. Although RAB operates under the command of Inspector General of Police, it is the only organization in Bangladesh, which has always been very successful in fulfilling its mission without any bias to any specific person or quarters. While many of the law enforcing agencies have the blame of being corrupt, RAB continues to uphold their high morale and their dedication has placed them to a high esteem in the eyes of the people of Bangladesh. International community is even appreciative on RAB\'s achievements in nabbing notorious Islamist radicals and kingpins of JMB like Shaikh Abdur Rahman and Siddiqul Islam. But, unfortunately, opposition politicians including Sheikh Hasina had always been extremely critical on this institution. They were even demanding dismantling of RAB. But, just recently, even Hasina had to endorse in public that RAB is effective and if she will be in power, RAB will continue. Bangladesh government awarded RAB with Independence Award, as the gesture of their achievements. Let us hope that RAB will continue to show its efficacy and zeal in combating terrorism and Islamist militancy in Bangladesh. Possibly the time is too near when many of the countries will invite members of RAB to help them in eliminating terrorism.
